Magic Mushrooms and Their Plant Allies with Katherine MacLean

We will investigate the relationship between psilocybin-containing mushrooms and San Pablo (Nicotiana rustica, sacred tobacco), San Pedro (Echinopsis pachanoiina, a sacred cactus also called Huachuma), and Salvia divinorum by drawing upon qualitative (interview-based) academic research, biographic explorations of Maria Sabina’s life (prints and films), and anecdotal stories from present-day Oaxacan mushroom healers.
