Weeds Heal: A Community Conversation with Isla Burgess and Linda Conroy

October 17th, 2024 @ 7 PM Central Time On Zoom!

This conversation has aired already - Please enjoy the replay by signing up below

Join veteran herbalist Linda Conroy and her esteemed teacher and friend, Isla Burgess, as they delve into Weeds Heal, A Working Herbal, Isla’s most popular selling book.

In Weeds Heal, Isla writes “Plants give us hints or clues as to how they can be used, keys to our understanding.”  During this community conversation, Isla will lead participants through the process described in her book to recognize these keys.  Some keys described in her book include our senses, the Doctrine of Signatures, colors, and the humoral theory.  She’ll utilize Chickweed, Stellaria media, during this community conversation.  It would be great if you have chickweed to work through with her during the conversation. If not, she’ll describe the process to assist you.

Isla is also presenting Aging Well at In Our Our Hands, a Women’s Wellness Series, offered in the winter of 2025 by Midwest Women’s Herbal.  Her workshop will focus on keeping ourselves well as we age, including recent research into aging, learning practical weekly and daily actions, tending ourselves, our senses, our bones, our blood, our brain, our skin, and nourishing our inner lives.  Notes will be provided.

If you are interested in learning about women’s health with Isla, we invite you to explore Herbal Approaches: Therapeutic Issues in Women's Health at the Herbwomen classroom.  This 21 lesson course includes over 13 hours of content, substantial handouts, and as one participant says, it spans all ages and stages of women’s health.

For those who join us live for this community conversation, we’ll be giving away a copy of Weeds Heal and one full series registration to In Our Own Hands!  We hope to see you at what will surely be a delight of the senses and an engaging connection with Chickweed.

A recording of the community conversation will be sent to those who are not able to attend live.

Isla Burgess

In 2008, Isla enrolled for a ‘mind retreat’ studying for an MSc. in Holistic Science at Schumacher College in Devon, England. She felt there was a deeper connection to be experienced with the plant/planet world that had been her working life as a Herbal Medicine Educator (as Director of the International College of Herbal Medicine and previously of the Waikato Centre for Herbal Studies).  Isla was an Herbal Medicine Practitioner for more than 30 years with a special interest in Women’s Health.

That Masters introduced her to the less well-known scientific work of J.W. von Goethe and together, with the teachers and colleagues, provided much stimulation for her book, The Biophilic Garden, Connecting People, Plants and Inscape. It also changed how she has worked since then; offering more participatory workshops enabling participants to directly experience the crossing-over to the plant/planet world.

She has worked internationally as a teacher, conference presenter and workshop facilitator, inspiring others.

Isla lives near Wanaka, New Zealand and is inspired by her life there in its ‘Inscape.’ Life, and that place, is the inspiration for her next book Trees Heal.
